New Atari Branch to Focus on Casual Gaming
Asteroids, Centipede and Missile Command updates on the way.

Atari today launched a brand new initiative labeled Atari GO (Games Online), which will feature a catalogue of future and current games, across a variety of platforms including consoles, mobile, social and online gaming.

The initiative will include existing games and partnered indie developers to "not only move Atari more aggressively into providing casual online and social games, but leverage that well of experience and creativity that all of these independent developers have," Atari Executive VP of Online and Mobile Gaming Thom Kozik told Joystiq.

The program will be linked with some of Atari's core games including Test Drive Unlimited 2 which may feature facebook integration unlocking extra in-game features. Atari is also planning a reimagining of historic titles Asteroids, Centipede and Missile Command and the release of new titles Deer Hunter Online and Faeries vs. Darklings, due out later this year.

Head on over to the official Atari GO website for more information and the chance to be involved in the program.
