Help editing videos

I've been wanting to make a Socom: Confrontation comparison video for a while now, and I was just wondering if anyone knows of any programs I could use.

I need to be able to cut out parts of videos obviously, and I also need to be able to sort of fuse the videos, put them side by side in the same video.

i use power director to do my movies with ..here link to one i did so you can see some of effects you can do
